After 238 years of tyranny, Nepalese people are getting relief to greater extent. The monarchial system of governance had been suppressing the peoples' will and desires for so long. The JanaAandolan-phase II has taught autocracy a lesson. though the recessives aren't keeping themselves quiet, they are seeking opportunity to destruct communal harmony. The effigy of democratic leaders is being burnt, renowned leaders' monuments are being vandalised, public property is being torched and wealth is being looted. These incidents have now become common in Southern part od our nation. It is said that when candle is about to extinguish, it glows much brightly so as to engulf other things along with it's extinction. Such is the case with the royal loyals.
During the twelve years of "peoples' war" conducted by Maoists, the human rights violation was just a part of formality. Neither of the sides in conflict respected the peoples' dignity. Maoists committed incidents like MAARI, and the then Royal Nepalese Army also brought the Nagarkot massacre. Especially after the February 1 coup of the king, his intervention in Nepali politics was a great concern for outer world. Though the present leaders can't be spared for their wrong-doings in the past, the present king is extensively responsible for provoking the nation into a wider scale of conflict. His cabinet was an assemblage of comedians because none of them was truly a leader. They were all corrupts and the diehard supporters of monarchy. The neighbouring countries China and India are gaining a boom in their economy but Nepal couldn't do that. Nepal has been seen only as the country of potentialities but not even a single country has assisted us to meet the challenges that we are facing. Poverty is at a faster pace. Children are malnourished. Women haven't been guaranteed their rights. Indigenous communities are marginalized and unheard. Still, basic human rights hasn't been guaranteed. There is still turmoil. There is necessity for education, health, food, housing, employmant et.al.
after April uprising, interim constitution was drafted out but still many communities are organizing unorganised protest programmes. Especially after Nepalgunj and Lahan incidents, Madheshi uprising has been boosted up. The recessive and anti-social elements are involved in this; there's no doubt in it. Though the demands raised by Madheshi brothers and sisters are fair, the mode of protests need to be peaceful. Why should we stop vehicular mivent and call for 'bandhas?' The Parliament has recently proposed to stop 'bandha' culture , that is an appreciable task. Non-violent movements ahve taught many dictators and autocrats a lesson. nepal has a democratic form of governance, surely there's no need for calling 'bandhas.' I also urge Madheshi and Indigenous communities to put a halt to their 'bandhas' and opt peaceful talk measures for sorting out their problem. resignation of Home Minister won't bring a big change in issues of Madhesh. We should asume ourselves as Nepalis first, then only we are divided in other factions.
The next major challenge for our nation in the Constituent Assembly elections which are due to be held in May/June. The eight political parties are assuring people that these elections will occur in the specified time. Citizenship certificates are are also being distributed and electoral name-list has been finalised. But, the political fluidity in Nepal can take a U-turn anytime. We have to be alert at each and every instances . With few months remaining fo CA elections, leaders of various political parties must go to each and every district of the nation and make people aware about procedure and necesity of these eleections. The proportionate and direct voting ( ballot ) system must also be brought to notice of the people.
Likely, the United Nations has done a splendid job by registering and monitoring the arms of either sides. But, the arms registered by Maoists are really inproportionate to their head counts. Let us see if maoists can really go along with Loktantric exercise in the upcoming days by leaving the politics of ' warfare and violence.'
The current Nepal Army has also to do a lot to prove itself as the companion of people. Lastly, I would like to remember Robert Frost's four lines for those who want to change Nepal as Switzerland-
THE WOODS ARE LOVELY, DARK AND DEEP,
BUT I HAVE PROMISES TO KEEP.
AND MILES TO GO BEFORE I SLEEP.
AND MILES TO GO BEFORE I SLEEP.
